A charity is not formed just to collect donations and help the less fortunate. It is also there to help the community in various ways. One of the ways is to ensure areas are kept clean and safe for the public.
With this in mind, we set up a community clean up in the Bastwell area of Blackburn. With the help of the local Councillors, we were able to get equipment from the council, which included litter pickers, hedge cutters, bin bags and PPE.
The local Councillors, namely Shaukat Hussain and Perwaiz Akhtar, Akhtar Hussain were absolutely immense in the run up to the clean up and on the day. We rounded up a group of very helpful volunteers and got to work. We also had the pleasure of welcoming the Mayor of Blakburn, Mahfooz Hussain. One of Blackburn’s local celebrities Tiger Patel also made a cameo!
As a charity, we stay impartial when it comes to political matters, but to have the help of the Councillors is a major statement.
We gathered around 20 bin bags full of rubbish from the area. The whole project was a huge success and it was great to see children getting involved. People from different areas of Blackburn turned up which was quite heart warming.
We will continue to run projects like this and help our communities in different ways!!
