This is one of the main reasons Community Relief UK was created; To help our community. As someone born and bred in Blackburn, I take it as my personal duty to help my community, without taking into account race or religion. The entire CRUK team has these ethics, which is the reason we all work so well together.
With this in mind, we launched our first Local food pack initiative in February 2026. The aim was to identify some of the most vulnerable people in Blackburn and provide them with a food parcel. With the help of two local organisations; Great Places and ARC, we were able to do this. We set out a target of 60 food parcels, as this was our first time doing it and it would help us gain vast experience moving forward. This was also our first joint venture with Raza/ Madina masjid. I put forward this proposal to them, and they were very happy to be apart of it.
In 2022 Blackburn Rovers FC ran this initiative, which I was apart of, so I knew the kind of items I needed to put into the food parcels. Our food parcel contained the following;
Chapatti Flour
Kajoor
Gram Flour (Besan)
Rice
Pasta
Oil
Sugar
Salt
Biscuits
Chick Peas
Kidney Beans
Baked Beans
Tea Bags
Cordial
Baby Potatoes
Pasta Sauce
Nan Bread
Cereal Wheat Crunch
Porridge Oats
6 Pack Crisp
Plain Flour
Tin Spaghetti
Rice Pudding
Soup
The main purpose was to provide relief in the local area to people of all faiths, religion and background, in the hope to ease a burden on our community whilst bringing people together. This project is something we will be doing on a regular basis after receiving positive feedback and will also be getting in touch with other local charities to boost funding and widen our net across the area.
The Total cost of this project was £1,582.83
